Bali Introduces Single Digital Wallet for Tourists to Simplify Payments Across the Island

Bali, Indonesia — In a significant move towards modernizing its tourism infrastructure, Bali has launched a new initiative allowing international tourists to make payments everywhere on the island using a single digital wallet. The Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack (ITTP), introduced by Bank Indonesia, aims to streamline transactions, enhance visitor convenience, and reduce the dependence on cash in this popular travel destination.

A Seamless Digital Payment Experience with ITTP

The newly unveiled Tourist Travel Pack encompasses a chip-based digital wallet integrated with the QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) payment system, a local SIM card with internet data, and an Indonesian mobile number. This all-in-one package enables tourists to easily pay for goods and services by scanning QR codes at restaurants, hotels, shops, and tourist attractions throughout Bali.

By adopting ITTP, travelers can avoid the often cumbersome process of currency exchange and navigating different payment methods that vary from country to country. This digital solution not only promises faster checkouts but also makes it more enjoyable to spend time at beaches, markets, and cultural hubs without worrying about carrying physical cash.

Tourism Information Centre at Bali Airport Supports Visitors

To facilitate the adoption of this new system, Bank Indonesia has established a Tourism Information Centre at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport—the main gateway to Bali. Here, arriving tourists receive assistance in setting up their digital wallets and SIM cards. The centre also provides access to the QRIS Nusantara Tourism Guidebook, which maps out local businesses and attractions accepting QRIS payments, encouraging visitors to embrace cashless transactions from the moment they land.

Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Fillianingsih Hendarta, emphasized the importance of simplifying transactions to bolster Bali’s reputation as a welcoming destination. “Ease of transactions is an important part of the tourism experience in Bali,” she stated at the ITTP launch. This initiative reflects Bali’s broader strategy of implementing modern, seamless travel experiences aligned with the expectations of today’s global tourists.

Rapid Growth of Digital Payments Across Bali

The surge in digital payment adoption is already evident on the island. In the first half of 2025, nearly one million merchants accepted QR code payments, highlighting how widespread QRIS has become. This payment option is accessible not only to Bali’s visitors but also to travelers from countries like China, Japan, and Singapore through cross-border QRIS compatibility, facilitating smooth transactions for frequent Asian tourists.

By making transactions trackable and quicker, MSMEs can gain better financial stability and explore new growth opportunities.
