Speaking to the press, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, emphasized the airport’s vision: “We want to create an unforgettable flying experience, allowing passengers to enjoy their time at the airport in a more enjoyable, personalized, and memorable way.” He further noted that the airport seeks to strengthen Bali’s reputation as a cultural tourism destination by reflecting the island’s unique character through these initiatives.

Travel data released at the end of October reveals a robust tourism recovery, highlighting that Australia continues to be the largest international source market for Bali. Over 1.25 million Australians flew into Bali during the first nine months of 2025 alone. Supporting this trend, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport recently inaugurated a new direct flight service connecting Bali to Newcastle, New South Wales.
“This new route expands direct access for Australian tourists and strengthens ties between Indonesia and Australia,” said Mr. Shahab at the launch event on October 21. The Newcastle-Denpasar link now makes Australia the most connected country to Bali via direct flights, with the airport serving nine Australian cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and now Newcastle.
Currently, the airport operates 21 domestic and 38 international flights, overseeing approximately 18.23 million passengers and 106,000 aircraft movements so far in 2025. ### A Cultural Welcome at the Gateway to Bali
