Extreme Heat and Heavy Rain Forecast for Bali’s Busiest Tourist Resorts

Tourists planning to visit Bali in the coming months are being warned to prepare for potentially extreme weather conditions. Officials have forecasted episodes of intense heat coupled with heavy monsoon rains, demanding caution and preparedness from both visitors and residents.

Rising Temperatures Across Indonesia, Including Bali

The Bali Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an urgent warning regarding elevated temperatures expected to continue until early 2026. Indonesia as a whole is experiencing a heat surge, with provinces such as Bali, East Java, South Sumatra, Semarang, and Jakarta facing some of the highest temperature spikes.

Jakarta residents have already endured temperatures exceeding the norm by approximately 3 degrees Celsius, reaching highs of 35°C. The heat is made more oppressive by deteriorating air quality. BMKG Deputy Guswanto advised, “We urged the public to minimize heavy physical activities outdoors, particularly the elderly and children,” emphasizing the health risks posed by prolonged exposure to the heat.

The increase in solar radiation over the southern half of the archipelago, particularly Sumatra, Java, and Bali, is identified as a key factor driving these rising temperatures. This presents a challenge for tourists drawn by Bali’s sunny climate, as extended outdoor activities may now involve health risks.

Compounding Challenges with the Arrival of the Rainy Season

The heatwave concerns coincide with the start of Bali’s rainy season. Meteorologists anticipate intensification of monsoon rains as the season progresses, typically peaking between late December and early January. This seasonal shift complicates the weather landscape, as travelers and locals contend with both rising temperatures and increased rainfall.

Following significant flooding in September 2025, Denpasar’s Mayor, I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara, confirmed ongoing flood response efforts and urged continued preparedness. The disaster status was recently adjusted from Emergency Response to Emergency Transition to Recovery, maintaining support for affected communities while focusing on long-term recovery in infrastructure, schools, and economic sectors.

Governor Koster has directed government agencies to work continuously to prepare for the monsoon season, particularly by strengthening management of island waterways such as the Ayung, Badung, Mati, and Unda rivers. The risk of tidal flooding and extreme waves is heightened around the full moon, with the supermoon on November 5 expected to exacerbate these conditions.

Upcoming Weather Outlook and Safety Recommendations

Forecast updates from BMKG indicate heavy rainfall expected on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Rainfall will move from inland areas such as Ubud, Bedugul, Kintamani, and Beskaih towards coastal tourist hubs including Nusa Dua, Kuta, Tanah Lot, and Sanur.

Tourists are urged to monitor the BMKG’s Instagram account, where regular weather updates and warnings are posted in both Bahasa Indonesia and English. Given the potential for natural disaster impacts, comprehensive travel and health insurance with coverage for extreme weather events is strongly recommended for all visitors.

Visitors planning vacations to Bali’s popular resorts should take these forecasts seriously to ensure safety and comfort. Limiting exposure to extreme heat, avoiding strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and staying aware of heavy rainfall events are essential precautions.

As Bali approaches this challenging weather period, authorities remain vigilant and committed to managing environmental risks and safeguarding both residents and tourists during the upcoming months.
