Bali Police Arrest Teenager for Theft of 400 Euros from Slovakian Tourist

October 8, 2025 | Bali, Indonesia

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Nusa Penida Police in Bali has apprehended an 18-year-old suspect in connection with the theft of 400 euros from a Slovakian tourist. The incident took place at a lodging facility in Sakti Village, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency on Sunday, October 5, 2025. The case came to light after I Wayan Sujana, owner of the bungalow where the victim Lukas Baranek was staying, reported the theft. Sujana informed authorities that the guest’s cash, amounting to approximately 7.8 million Indonesian Rupiah, was missing from the premises.

According to Nusa Penida Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner I Ketut Kesuma Jaya, the victim stated that his room had been left in disorder before he stepped out. However, upon returning from an outing, he found the room surprisingly tidy, despite the disappearance of the money.

Following the report, the police initiated an investigation involving crime scene analysis and witness interviews. Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of the suspect, identified by the initials IKAP, at his residence in Banjar Angas, Klumpu Village, within the Nusa Penida District.

During interrogation, IKAP confessed to the theft and surrendered the stolen cash to authorities. The suspect and evidential items are currently held at the Nusa Penida Police Station as the case undergoes further legal processing.

This incident has raised concerns over security measures at tourism accommodations in the region, especially considering Bali’s status as a popular destination for international visitors. Police officials have urged lodging operators to enhance surveillance and secure premises to protect guests and maintain Bali’s reputation as a safe travel locality.

The Nusa Penida Police continue their investigation as they prepare to prosecute the suspect under applicable Indonesian law.
