Bali Politicians Demand Deportation for Tourists Who Break the Law

In response to increasing concerns over lawbreaking by tourists, Bali authorities are advocating for stricter enforcement measures, including the deportation of foreign visitors who commit crimes on the island.

Deputy Chairman of Bali’s legislative council, Komang Nova Sewi Putra, emphasized the need for harsher consequences for legal transgressions by tourists. Putra pointed out the contrast between Bali and other countries, saying, “If we were abroad and got into a fight, we would immediately be deported. Why isn’t this enforced in Bali? Once caught, deport them. This will make Bali safer.”

This call comes amid growing frustration among local officials and residents over incidents involving tourists flouting local laws, which some fear undermine public safety and the island’s reputation as a peaceful tourist destination.

Bali’s mayor has also echoed concerns, warning that certain offences committed by foreign nationals could lead to legal repercussions, including immediate removal from the country. The approach aims to reinforce respect for local customs, regulations, and the safety of the community.

The push for deportation policies signals a shift toward tougher immigration and law enforcement actions designed to protect both residents and visitors. While Bali remains a popular destination known for its culture and natural beauty, the local government’s hardline stance reflects a broader effort to ensure responsible tourism and safeguard the island’s social order.

As Bali continues to attract millions of travelers annually, the authorities are urging visitors to adhere to local laws and respect the community’s values. Failure to comply may now carry the risk of deportation and other sanctions, underscoring the message: respect is expected, and breaches of the law will not be tolerated.
