UID Campus in Bali SEZ Demonstrates Significant Progress on Sustainable Development Goals and Tourism
Jakarta, October 2, 2025 — The establishment of the United in Diversity (UID) Bali Campus within the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (SEZ) marks a milestone in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) alongside tourism development in Bali. Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana highlighted the campus as a concrete example of implementing SDGs, showcasing the integration of education, innovation, and tourism with a strong focus on environmental protection and community empowerment.
A Hub for Sustainable Education and Tourism
The UID Bali Campus is uniquely positioned as a capacity-building center open to the public, aimed at enhancing understanding and engagement with the SDGs. The initiative embodies Bali’s commitment to transforming its tourism sector into a model of sustainability, balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship and social inclusion.
Minister Wardhana emphasized that the campus fosters synergy across various sectors, positioning Bali as a leader in sustainable tourism practices. “The UID campus represents more than an educational institution; it reflects our vision for tourism that nurtures the environment and benefits local communities,” she stated during her visit to the Kura Kura Bali SEZ on October 1. ### Kura Kura Bali SEZ’s Broader Development Plans
In addition to the campus, the Kura Kura Bali SEZ is advancing a major international marina project with a capacity to accommodate 145 yachts. This marina will complement the zone’s tourism, trade, and maritime services infrastructure, aligning with the Ministry of Tourism’s flagship “Upgrading Tourism” strategy, which prioritizes the expansion of marine-based tourism sectors.
Tantowi Yahya, President Commissioner of PT Bali Turtle Island Development, expressed optimism regarding the marina’s prospects: “Located within a sheltered bay, the marina offers safety from strong waves, making it one of the most beautiful and strategic maritime facilities worldwide.”
Economic Impact and Investment Growth
Investment in Bali’s tourism sector continues to demonstrate robust growth. Data from the first half of 2025 reveals that tourism investment realization in Bali reached IDR 7.10 trillion, accounting for 20.8 percent of the nation’s total tourism investments. The Kura Kura Bali SEZ itself attracted IDR 260.96 billion, achieving 14.53 percent of the year’s investment target. This positive momentum underscores investor confidence in Bali’s sustainable tourism initiatives and infrastructure development.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
The UID Bali Campus and the developments within the Kura Kura Bali SEZ exemplify Indonesia’s dedication to fulfilling its SDG commitments through innovative and sustainable tourism projects. By promoting education, environmental conservation, and community involvement, these initiatives contribute to a resilient and inclusive tourism industry that benefits all stakeholders.
