Bali authorities have issued a serious warning to tourists as a desperate search continues for a British national who vanished while swimming at Legian Beach, one of the island’s popular holiday destinations. The young traveller, identified as 23-year-old Harrison Edward Nada Kontounas, was reported missing after being swept away by strong currents on Wednesday afternoon.

According to local reports, Kontounas was swimming with two friends when he was caught in a powerful current that dragged him out to sea. His companions managed to escape safely, but efforts to locate Kontounas have so far been unsuccessful. The incident happened near Legian Beach, close to the adjacent Kuta Beach area, both known for their vibrant tourist activities but increasingly hazardous water conditions.

I Nyoman Sidakarya, Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas), described the challenging environment hampering efforts to deploy the main search and rescue equipment. “We conducted searches along the coastline but the sea conditions prevented us from launching full-scale operations in the water,” he explained.
Sidakarya said the team is coordinating with witnesses and other emergency responders in the area. “If he is not found by tomorrow morning, we will review our next steps carefully,” he added.
