As Indonesia marks the 80th anniversary of its Independence Day on August 17, 2025, Bali is joining the festivities with special travel promotions and cultural events designed to attract both local residents and tourists. Key tourist destinations across the island are offering exciting programs, discounted tickets, and unique experiences to commemorate this significant national occasion.
Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park: A Festive People’s Party
One of Bali’s iconic landmarks, Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park in Ungasan, Badung Regency, is hosting a “people’s party” from August 13 to 17, 2025. The event aims to both entertain visitors and honor Indonesia’s independence with a vibrant mix of activities.
Visitors can indulge in a wide selection of local and Nusantara cuisine, showcasing the rich flavors from across the Indonesian archipelago. The culinary events will feature a variety of traditional dishes complemented by artisanal products from various regions.
Music lovers are in for a treat on the peak day of August 17, when GWK will present a music extravaganza featuring genres ranging from pop and dangdut to electronic dance music. Nationally renowned artists including The Changcuters, Pamungkas, King Nassar, and Dipha Barus will perform alongside talented local Balinese musicians. Additionally, cultural performances from the provinces of Banten and West Sumatra will be held on the Nusantara Stage, highlighting Indonesia’s diverse heritage.
Bali Zoo Offers Special Discounts for Local Residents
Meanwhile, Bali Zoo is extending promotions to local visitors with discounted entrance tickets valid from August 10 through August 31, 2025. This conservation and education center, home to around 600 animals representing 60 species native to Asia, Africa, and Indonesia, is popular for animal observation, feeding sessions, and its children’s water park.
For travelers holding a Bali identity card (KTP), tickets are priced at Rp80,000, reduced from the usual Rp110,000 for adults and Rp85,000 for children. Other domestic visitors continue to pay the regular rates of Rp140,000 for adults and Rp100,000 for children. Emma Kristiana Chandra, Head of Public Relations at Bali Zoo, emphasized the extended opportunity allows residents to enjoy the zoo’s offerings at a significant discount as part of Independence Day celebrations.
Bedugul Botanical Gardens: Garden Exploration at a Special Price
Located approximately 60 kilometers from Denpasar in Tabanan Regency, the Bedugul Botanical Gardens, established in 1959, is situated in a cool mountainous area around 1,550 meters above sea level. The expansive gardens cover 157.5 hectares and provide visitors a refreshing natural retreat.
To mark Independence Day, the management is offering a "garden exploration" package on August 17 for Rp80,000, significantly lower than the regular price of Rp175,000 per person.
