Indonesia Launches Immigration Patrol Task Force to Manage Unruly Tourists in Bali
In an effort to tackle issues related to unruly foreign visitors, Indonesia has established a new immigration task force aimed at maintaining law and order on the resort island of Bali. The initiative, officially launched on August 5, 2025, seeks to curb illegal activities by tourists and ensure prompt action against immigration violations in key tourist areas across the island.
Patrols Across Popular Tourist Spots
The Immigration Patrol Task Force, inaugurated by Agus Andrianto, Indonesia’s Minister of Immigration and Corrections, is currently active in Denpasar, Bali’s provincial capital, and extends its operations to major tourist hotspots. These include the famed surfing destinations of Canggu and Seminyak, the cultural and spiritual center of Ubud, and the coastal seafood town of Jimbaran. The team comprises roughly 100 uniformed officers patrolling via motorcycles and cars equipped with body cameras and safety vests, enhancing both their ability to monitor activities and the safety of the officers on duty.
According to Agus Andrianto, the formation of this task force follows direct instructions from President Prabowo Subianto, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability and security to protect Bali’s reputation as one of Indonesia’s premier tourist destinations.
Operational Details and Objectives
The task force carries out random but regular patrols focusing on suppressing illegal acts committed by foreigners, particularly those related to immigration infringements. These activities are set to continue until at least August 31, with the possibility of extensions depending on the situation’s development.
While the initiative intends to safeguard Bali’s tourism industry and local communities from disruptive behavior, some critics express concerns that the visible presence of uniformed officers might cause discomfort or unease among visitors, potentially affecting tourist experiences.
The immigration agency assures that the task force’s approach is designed to be proactive and responsive, aiming to quickly address violations and discourage unlawful conduct without deterring legitimate tourism.

This move comes amid recent incidents involving misconduct by visitors that have prompted the Bali government to outline clearer rules and guidelines for tourists.
