Two Chinese Tourists Die in Bali Boat Accident

Tragedy struck off the coast of Bali when a tourist boat carrying predominantly foreign visitors capsized and sank, resulting in the deaths of two Chinese nationals. The incident occurred on August 7, 2025, as the vessel was traveling from the island of Nusa Penida to Sanur, Bali.

According to local authorities, the boat, known as the Bali Dolphin Cruise, was hit by a large wave that caused it to overturn. Aprianus Hangki, head of the Benoa Authority in Bali, stated that while several boats were safely navigating the waters at that time, this particular vessel failed to anticipate the incoming large wave, leading to the accident.

At the time of the accident, there were 73 foreign tourists aboard the boat. Alongside the two Chinese tourists who lost their lives, an Indonesian passenger was reported missing. Rescue efforts were promptly launched by the Indonesian navy, which assisted in saving passengers who had been thrown overboard and conducted a thorough search and rescue operation.

Indonesian Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi expressed condolences on behalf of the government, promising a swift and comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Boat and ferry accidents remain a concerning issue in Indonesia’s busy waters. Just last month, another ferry sank off the coast of Bali, resulting in over a dozen fatalities and multiple missing persons after an extended rescue operation.

This latest tragedy highlights the ongoing need for improved safety measures for maritime tourism activities in the region to protect both visitors and locals alike. Authorities continue their investigation to determine all contributing factors behind the accident.
