Bali Authorities Conduct Spot Checks on Tourist Vehicles to Ensure Safety

In a move to enhance safety standards across the island, Bali police and the Bali Transportation Agency have initiated a series of spot checks targeting tourist vehicles operating in the Badung Regency, a region recognized for its popular tourist destinations including Uluwatu, Canggu, Seminyak, Nusa Dua, Kuta, and Legian.

On July 29, 2025, officers carried out inspections where dozens of tourist taxis and other transport vehicles were pulled over to verify compliance with transportation regulations. These checks are part of ongoing efforts mandated by the Governor of Bali’s decree concerning the regulation and supervision of public passenger and goods transportation throughout the province.

Nyoman Sunarya, Head of the Road Transportation Division at the Bali Transportation Agency, explained that these operations focus on both public passenger and freight vehicles used in tourism, ensuring that drivers hold the appropriate permits and that vehicles meet registration requirements. During the initial day of enforcement, 20 violations were recorded, chiefly involving unlicensed tourist vehicles, expired registrations, and illegal use of private cars for tourism purposes without the proper permits.

Sunarya emphasized that while drivers who violated regulations received tickets and warnings, tourists traveling in these vehicles were allowed to continue their journeys uninterrupted. Offenders were instructed to promptly address licensing and registration issues to avoid further penalties. The transportation agency reassures that applying for the correct permits is straightforward, and lack of understanding will not be accepted as justification for non-compliance.

The spot checks are scheduled to continue for at least another month within Badung Regency. Travelers may experience brief stops during their trips as officers conduct these inspections, but the focus remains strictly on the vehicle and driver credentials rather than passengers.

Alongside these vehicle inspections, Bali Police recently conducted outreach with independent taxi drivers in the South Kuta area, covering zones around Dalem Lamun Temple, ITDC Nusa Dua, and Benoa Village. Commissioner I Komang Agus Dharmayana W, the South Kuta Police Chief, highlighted the importance of maintaining order and professionalism among taxi drivers to prevent conflicts, especially between conventional and online operators. He also urged the public to report any disturbances caused by tourists to law enforcement promptly.

These combined efforts underline Bali’s commitment to ensuring the comfort, security, and orderly operation of tourist transportation services. Authorities continue to encourage all drivers and transport providers to adhere strictly to regulations to maintain the island’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.
