The Transport Ministry said construction of a new airport in Buleleng, northern Bali will begin in 2020 after a number of processes such as master plan, selection of location and planning have been wrapped up.
“The land is almost all traditional land. The governor and regent pledged there is no problem in land procurement,” Air Transport Director General Polana Banguningsih Pramesti said at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport here on Sunday.
Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi accompanied by Bali Governor Wayan Koster and Regent of Buleleng Putu Agus Suradnyana had inspected the location of new airport project in Kubutambahan.
Polana said in general, there is no significant difficulty in land procurement as the land is village land therefore, there is no need for land clearing. In addition, there are few people living in that areas, he said.
He said the new airport would be built in the area of Kubutambahan occupying a land plot of 400 hectares , adding the location is ideal for airport.
“However, the regional administration has to build access road, a short cut to the north,” he said.
Earlier, Bali Governor Wayan Koster officially commissioned the construction of short cut between Singaraja and Mengwitani, marked with the laying of a corner stone in the village of Pegayaman, Kabupaten Buleleng.
Construction of the short cut road of Denpasar-Buleleng is expected to be completed in 2021.
