Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) confirmed that Dorna Sports S.L. CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta was in Mandalika, Lombok to see the proposed location of the Indonesian MotoGP circuit. The visit occurred between the Australian and Malaysian MotoGP races.
Carmelo, accompanied by his son, met with Indonesian government and ITDC representatives to see the possibility of holding a MotoGP event at the 1,175 hectare location.
“Carmelo Ezpeleta stayed at Bali National Golf Club, Nusa Dua, before he went to Malaysian MotoGP at Sepang. He already visited Bali twice,” said ITDC President Director and CEO Abdulbar to motosport.com.
“In between the Australian and Malaysian MotoGP legs, he wanted to visit Bali and Lombok. That’s why we asked him to visit Mandalika and presented the concept to hold a MotoGP race there in the near future. The visit was brief, but we believe he enjoyed it and we will welcome him if he comes to Bali and Lombok again,” he added.
The proposed street circuit will be constructed by a French concession and construction company, VINCI Construction Grand Projects. The circuit will be constructed on a 131 hectare area and the investment is in the neighbourhood of USD 1 billion. If the Indonesian government can complete all requirements, the Indonesian MotoGP will be held.
As is well known, Indonesia is one of the biggest markets for Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, and Ducati motorcycles.
According to detikfinace, the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK) will begin no later than the end of 2018. Development is marked with the commencement of the Shaza Resort and Hotel Mysk as the first projects. The two hotels, which are five-star and four-star sharia hotels operated by Shaza Hotels, are expected to be operational by the end of 2020 and providing 400 rooms.
