The Asian Para Games will take place from Oct. 6-13 in a total of 19 venues in Jakarta. The quadrennial event – a follow-up to last month’s Asian Games – will involve athletes from 42 countries under the theme “The Inspiring Spirit and Energy of Asia”.
There will be 19 sports, such as track and field, badminton, archery, chess, boccia, cycling, goalball, judo, lawn ball, weightlifting, shooting, aquatics, bowling, table tennis, basketball, fencing, tennis, and volleyball.
Athletes will fight to win a total of 568 gold medals on offer. Track and field remain the favorite discipline, with 714 athletes from 39 countries to compete in this category.
Host Indonesia has set itself a goal to finish in the top 5, following Indonesian athletes’ achievements at the 2017 ASEAN Para Games in Malaysia. More generally, the country hopes to witness local heroes give their best at the event.
