There was something unusual about the trailer for Deadpool 2 that was just released by 20th Century Fox.
Indonesia’s martial arts hero Wiro Sableng (Vino G. Bastian) and purple-dressed independent warrior Anggini (Sherina Munaf) from the Wiro Sableng movie could be seen in it, participating in an audition to join X-Force, a group of mutants formed by Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) in the movie.
“Any power you want to tell us about?” asked Deadpool during the audition in the trailer.
“I’ve lived in a mountain for 17 years. No phone,” answered Wiro, resulting in a “yes” from Deadpool himself.
However, although both Wiro and Anggini seem capable of carrying out the job, there is a disclaimer at the end of the video, saying that they “did not make it into Deadpool’s super-duper team, they only made it into this promo for the movie”.
The disclaimer also asked the audience not to “try jumping from planes without a parachute. It’s extremely dangerous”, highlighting what Wiro did in the last moments of the trailer.
On Wiro’s presence in the trailer, Wiro Sableng’s producer Sheila “Lala” Timothy from Lifelike Pictures said it was a joint promotion for both films as Wiro Sableng is co-produced by 20th Century Fox, like Deadpool 2.
“Because it can be said that we’re under the same company, usually there are many promotion spots offered, one of them is by inserting crossovers,” Lala told The Jakarta Post, adding that Deadpool bears a resemblance to Wiro. “They have the same characteristics, I mean Wiro is also nyeleneh [extraordinary], funny and Deadpool is also an antihero, […] while other superheroes are usually more serious. In nature, they’re the same – both are sableng [a little bit crazy].”
Regarding the possibility of Wiro collaborating with other fictional characters in the 20th Century Fox stable, Lala said, “for now we’re focusing on Deadpool 2, which will be released on May 15 in Indonesia and we will also release Wiro Sableng’s teaser trailer on May 11.”
However, Lala still had a surprise for Indonesian audiences. She said there will be a touch of Wiro Sableng in the Deadpool 2 movie on May 15. “The audience will find something there,” Lala said. Wiro Sableng is set to premiere at the end of this year.
