Location for New Bali Airport

Share This Post:

It feels like it’s been years since we’ve gotten any updates about the government’s plans to build the new airport in North Bali that the island’s governor has been so outspokenly gung ho about.

Despite previous reports that the government had pinpointed a location that would require reclamation in Bali’s Buleleng Regency, the Ministry of Transportation is now saying that its currently working on setting the new airport’s location based on feasibility studies submitted by consultants for two separate locations.

Airports Director of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Yudhi Sari Sitompul, says that Bali’s second airport will still more than likely be done in Buleleng, it’s just a matter of where in the regency.

“After the government completes its study, God willing, we will set the location this year,” Sitompul said in Nusa Dua on Thursday, as quoted by Liputan 6.

A team from the directorate general will soon be visiting the two locations for a closer look next week, says Sitompul.

The airports director says he can not yet confirm at this time whether or not a reclamation would be part of the development plan for the new airport.

Newly appointed Transportation Ministry director general for air transportation Agus Santoso says the actual building of the airport isn’t the only thing on the government’s mind. The government will also be strategizing development for Bali’s more rural north as a tourism destination—now let’s all collectively cringe.
