Yulia, a spokesperson from the Tourism Ministry, emphasized that improving Bali’s accessibility through expanded air services will not only attract more visitors to the island but also encourage tourists to explore other extraordinary destinations throughout Indonesia. “Bali is undoubtedly a key attraction, but Indonesia offers a vast array of remarkable cultural, natural, and historical experiences across its archipelago,” she remarked. Ambitious Tourism Goals for 2025
Indonesia has set an ambitious target of welcoming between 14.6 million and 16 million foreign tourists in 2025, indicating strong efforts to revive and grow its tourism sector following challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic. Data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reveals a positive trend consistent with this target. Between January and April 2025, Indonesia welcomed 4.33 million foreign tourists—a 5.60% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Air travel continues to dominate as the primary mode of entry, with approximately three million visitors arriving by air in the first four months of the year.
Bali as a Key Gateway
I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali remains a primary entry point into Indonesia, welcoming over two million travelers during this period. This substantial volume underscores Bali’s importance as the gateway for international tourists coming to Indonesia.
Other major international airports also recorded significant arrivals: Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta—the country’s busiest hub—reported 725,652 foreign tourist arrivals, while Juanda Airport in Surabaya saw 81,771 international visitors. These figures collectively highlight Indonesia’s expanding appeal as a diverse and lucrative tourism destination.
