Bali Police Investigate Alleged Kidnapping and Robbery of Ukrainian National Involving Russian Suspects

Denpasar, Bali – Authorities in Bali are currently investigating a disturbing incident involving the reported kidnapping and robbery of a Ukrainian national, who was allegedly targeted by a group of nine Russian nationals. The incident, which has raised significant concern among locals and foreign residents alike, reportedly resulted in the theft of cryptocurrency assets valued at $214,429.

Details of the Incident

On December 15, Igor Iermakov, the Ukrainian national, was traveling in a BMW with his driver when the ambush occurred in the South Kuta District of Badung Regency. According to official reports, their vehicle was intercepted on Tundun Penyu Dipal Street, where it was blocked by two other cars, cutting off their escape.

In a frightening turn of events, four men wearing black clothing and face coverings approached the vehicle carrying weapons, including knives and hammers. The assailants forcefully removed Iermakov and his driver from their car, blindfolded them, and restrained their hands with handcuffs.

The Crime Unfolds

Following the abduction, the victims were taken to a villa in South Kuta. There, the kidnappers confiscated Iermakov’s cellphone and coerced him into transferring his cryptocurrency holdings to two designated accounts. Chief Commissioner Ariasandy of the Bali Police revealed that the assailants inflicted physical harm upon the victim during this process, leading to injuries on his right ear and bruising on his hands and head.

Ariasandy stated, “They beat the victim and coerced him into revealing access to his Binance account, allowing them to seize cryptocurrency assets worth $214,429 or approximately Rp 3.5 billion.”

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

In response to the alleged crime, the Bali Police have deployed a team from the Criminal Investigation Directorate to pursue the suspects actively. Ariasandy emphasized that this case is a top priority for the police force, which is dedicated to ensuring the safety of both local residents and expatriates.

“The case is currently being handled by the Bali Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate,” Ariasandy confirmed, assuring the public that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this alarming incident.
