Bali Governor Pushes for Accelerated Building Permit Services for Low-Income Residents
DENPASAR, Bali – On January 21, 2025, Acting Governor of Bali, S.M. Mahendra Jaya, visited the Public Service Mall (MPP) in Badung and Gianyar to evaluate the acceleration of services related to building permits for low-income residents. This initiative aims to support the national program aimed at building three million affordable houses, as outlined in President Joko Widodo’s Asta Cita mission, which emphasizes the need for accessible housing and sanitation for the low-income community.
Commitment to Fast-Track Building Permits
During his visit, Governor Mahendra Jaya was accompanied by several key officials including the Head of the Public Works, Housing, and Spatial Planning Agency of Bali, Nusakti Yasa Wedha; the Head of the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency of Bali, I Wayan Sumarajaya; and the Acting Head of the Regional Revenue Agency of Bali, I Wayan Budiasa. The governor reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to expedite the issuance of building permits, known as Persetujuan Bangunan Gedung (PBG), promising that once applications are complete, the processing time would not exceed ten working days.
While at the Badung MPP, the governor expressed appreciation for the fast and innovative services being provided. “I witnessed firsthand the simulation of the PBG issuance process, which took less than 20 minutes from data entry to permit issuance, provided that all documents are complete. In the future, we will continue to push for the acceleration of PBG services for low-income residents to ensure wider access,” he stated.
Streamlined Public Services in Badung
The MPP Badung hosts around 30 public service agencies, including immigration, tax services, BPJS (Social Security Agency), and others, facilitating easier access for residents. The head of the Badung DPMPTSP, I Made Agus Aryawan, noted that qualified personnel and the use of the Building Management Information System (SIMBG) are integral to enhancing service delivery.
During the visit, Governor Mahendra Jaya presented the first PBG issued by the Badung MPP to Putu Bayu Tantranaya, a local from Lukluk, Mengwi.
Enhancements in Gianyar
After concluding his discussions in Badung, Governor Mahendra Jaya moved to MPP Gianyar where he commended the facilities, particularly a designated children’s play area, promoting a more comfortable waiting environment for the public. “This is a commendable innovation that allows people to wait peacefully,” he remarked.
In his dialogue regarding the PBG application process, the governor emphasized the need to minimize delays to prevent long queues, especially since the SIMBG application is still unfamiliar to many residents. “There should be staff readily available to assist and guide residents on using the application,” he added.
He also suggested allocating specific spaces for complaints and inquiries to assist users facing challenges with the SIMBG application.
Ongoing Efforts in Gianyar
Gianyar’s acting regent, I Dewa Tagel Wirasa, highlighted that despite challenges in the licensing process, efforts are being made to expedite the PBG issuance. By utilizing standardized document templates, they have managed to reduce the issuance time to approximately 120 minutes. “We are ready to assist the public, from downloading applications to creating new email accounts for documentation purposes,” he noted.
At the conclusion of his visit to MPP Gianyar, Governor Mahendra Jaya emphasized that speeding up these services is crucial for supporting central government initiatives. “The Bali provincial government fully supports this program, and we will persistently enhance services and expedite assistance for residents in need of building permits,” he affirmed.
Several officials also attended the visits, including the acting Secretary of Badung, I.B Surya Suamba, and the Secretary of Gianyar, I Dewa Gede Alit Mudiarta.
With these efforts, Bali’s local government aims to meet the growing demand for affordable housing while ensuring that administrative processes are efficient and accessible to all.
