Clean Tourism Movement Aims to Attract Visitors to North Bali
Indonesian Ministry of Tourism Launches Initiative to Promote Clean and Sustainable Tourism
On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism launched the “Clean Tourism Movement” (Gerakan Wisata Bersih) at Lovina Beach, located in the Buleleng Regency of North Bali. This initiative seeks to bolster tourism in the region by promoting cleanliness and sustainability in tourist destinations, enhancing the overall visitor experience while also addressing existing challenges within Indonesia’s tourism sector.
A Focus on Cleanliness
The Clean Tourism Movement encompasses several key activities, including community clean-up efforts, the provision of necessary cleaning facilities, and the establishment of a community-based waste management system. Educational initiatives are also part of the program, aiming to raise awareness among both residents and tourists about the importance of maintaining clean environments in tourist areas.
Approximately 500 participants attended the event at Lovina Beach, which included representatives from government agencies, educational institutions, community organizations, and local residents. Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa was present and highlighted that cleanliness plays a crucial role in ensuring a quality experience for tourists.
Strengthening North Bali’s Tourism Appeal
During her address, Deputy Minister Puspa underscored the initiative’s intent to enhance the image and competitiveness of Indonesia’s tourism sector. “We must establish initiatives that elevate the image of these destinations, and the Clean Tourism Movement is one such effort,” she stated in a press release. The selection of Lovina Beach as the launch site was strategic, as it is known as the hub of North Bali.
Puspa also noted a concerning trend in visitor numbers, which have predominantly remained concentrated in the southern regions of Bali. This lack of distribution has prompted the need for initiatives such as the Clean Tourism Movement, aimed at redirecting tourist interest to other promising areas of the island.
Community and Government Collaboration
The importance of community engagement in maintaining clean and inviting tourist destinations cannot be overstated. Puspa emphasized that cleanliness is fundamental to creating a welcoming atmosphere for tourists. This initiative not only aims to improve the physical environment but also aspires to foster a sense of responsibility among local communities and visitors alike.
The efforts in North Bali are part of a broader strategy to develop and promote the region’s tourism potential, which includes emphasizing the “3B tourism package” that the government has been advocating. Completing the picture, Puspa expressed her aspiration to solidify Lovina’s role as the primary focal point for Northern Bali tourism.
Conclusion
The Clean Tourism Movement represents Indonesia’s commitment to developing sustainable tourism practices while enhancing the quality and appeal of lesser-visited regions such as North Bali. As the initiative progresses, it is hoped that it will not only attract more visitors but also ensure that the environment is preserved for future generations.
