Successful Rescue Operation for Missing Foreign National in Amed, Bali
Amed, Bali – February 16, 2025: In a collaborative rescue effort led by the Abang Police Chief, AKP I Komang Susiawan, a missing French national was found safe following an extensive search operation that began on February 14, 2025.
Details of the Incident
The operation began when authorities received a report at approximately 9:30 PM WITA on February 14, indicating that DA PONTE ALMIRO, a 58-year-old male tourist from France, was missing in the Amed area. His partner, DA PONTE SILVIE, a 57-year-old French national, reported his disappearance to the Abang Police. Both individuals were staying at the BBQ Guest House located in the village of Purwakerthi, in the Karangasem regency.
Search Efforts Initiated
Upon receiving the missing person report, Abang Police’s supervisor, IPDA I GEDE EKA SUMARDIANA, coordinated with local community Policing Units from Purwakerthi and Bunutan to initiate a search for Mr. DA PONTE ALMIRO. Search efforts commenced that same night, with a team of 15 personnel scouring the hilly terrain around Pura Celuk Penabang Sari, an area surrounding Amed, between 10:30 PM and 12:30 AM. Unfortunately, these initial efforts did not yield any signs of the missing individual.
Rescue Operation Resumes
The following morning, on February 15, at approximately 8:35 AM WITA, the search resumed based on new information from local residents who reported the possible location of the missing tourist. A team was deployed once again, led by Police Chief AKP I Komang Susiawan in collaboration with the search and rescue team from Basarnas Karangasem, local medics from Puskesmas Abang 2, and additional police personnel.
After hours of coordinated efforts, the team successfully located Mr. DA PONTE ALMIRO at around 10:35 AM WITA, having fallen approximately 12 meters down a ravine. Thanks to the prompt and efficient operation by the teamwork amongst local authorities and community members, the tourist was safely evacuated from the precarious location.

Following the rescue, Mr. DA PONTE ALMIRO underwent a thorough medical examination conducted by the medical team from Puskesmas Abang Dua to ensure his well-being.
