Call for Direct Flights Between Moscow and Bali to Strengthen Economic Ties

Bali, Indonesia – May 17, 2025 – The Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has expressed strong support for the establishment of direct flight routes between Moscow, Russia, and Bali, Indonesia, as part of a broader initiative to enhance business relations between the two nations. Hartarto made the announcement during a Russian-Indonesian business forum held on April 14, 2025. In his speech, Hartarto stated, “We encourage people-to-people collaboration, including direct flights from Moscow to Bali,” emphasizing the importance of facilitating direct air travel to foster tourism and economic engagement. He explained that direct flights would not only benefit Bali but could also open the door to enhancing air connections to five other prominent tourist destinations across Indonesia.

Additionally, the Minister highlighted the potential for direct flights connecting Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, to Moscow, which he believes will significantly support business development between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and its Russian counterparts.

Airlangga Hartarto has initiated discussions regarding the proposed flight connections with Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Valentinovich Manturov, indicating a collaborative effort between officials to bring this plan to fruition. While a timeline for the launch of these flights has not been specified, Hartarto expressed optimism, asserting that the implementation of these direct connections could occur on short notice.

The push for direct flights between Moscow and Bali is timely, given the increasing interest in travel and tourism between the two countries. It also serves as a strategic move to strengthen economic ties as both Indonesia and Russia seek to diversify their economic partnerships.

As the dialogue progresses, stakeholders from both nations are hopeful that the proposed air links will facilitate greater exchange in business and tourism, ultimately contributing to the economic growth of both Indonesia and Russia.
