Search Underway for Missing 6-Year-Old in Bali River Incident
DENPASAR, BALI – January 24, 2025
A search operation is currently underway for a 6-year-old boy named Gede Satria, who was reported missing after being swept away in the Tukad Korea River at Pasar Badung in Denpasar, Bali. The incident occurred on Friday, January 24, 2025, around 11:00 AM local time.
Immediate Response to the Incident
In response to the distressing situation, a joint team consisting of the Denpasar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Denpasar Fire and Rescue Department, the Denpasar Public Works and Housing Office, local police, and community volunteers have mobilized to conduct extensive search efforts.
Ida Bagus Joni Ariwibawa, Head of BPBD Denpasar, noted the challenges faced during the search. “As of tonight, the child has not yet been found, and the search will resume tomorrow morning,” he stated during an interview with Tribun Bali on Friday.
Search Efforts and Challenges
The search teams have been meticulously combing several areas along the river, particularly monitoring specific points such as the Buagan Dam and a nearby fishing pond. “Due to the darkness that has descended along the riverbanks, it is not safe to continue the search at night,” Joni explained, indicating that operations would recommence with the dawn.
How the Incident Occurred
The unfortunate incident began when Gede Satria was tasked with disposing of some deceased catfish into the river. When the family noticed he had not returned after a considerable amount of time, they initiated their own search, looking in the area where he was last seen.
“When he didn’t return, they started searching in the vicinity of where he was supposed to throw away the fish, but he was nowhere to be found,” Joni revealed. The family extended their search to the homes of Gede’s friends and along the riverbanks toward the Buagan Dam.
After hours without success, the family began to suspect that Gede had been swept away by the river’s current. They eventually reported the matter to the Operations Control Center (Pusdalops), which initiated an organized response from rescue agencies.
Community Support and Continuing Efforts
The local community has rallied together, offering support to the family during this difficult time. As the search continues, many hope for a positive outcome in locating Gede Satria.
The authorities urge anyone with information about the incident or who may have seen Gede to come forward and assist in the search efforts. The teams remain committed to finding the young boy, working tirelessly amid challenging conditions.
The situation is a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by local waterways, particularly for young children, and serves as a call for greater awareness and safety practices in the community.
As the search resumes tomorrow, thoughts and well-wishes from the local community and beyond are with the family during this difficult time.
