Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport Gears Up for High Season Tourist Influx

Bali, Indonesia – May 23, 2025 – As the high tourist season approaches, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is preparing for a significant influx of visitors eager to experience the beauty of Bali. Recent travel data indicates that the airport experienced over 2 million passenger movements in April alone, with a total of 12,119 flights recorded.

Record Passenger Numbers

Wahyudi, the General Manager of Ngurah Rai Airport, reported that the surge in passenger arrivals for April was closely linked to the Eid al-Fitr celebrations. The airport’s data revealed that a remarkable 2,028,344 passengers passed through its terminals throughout the month, highlighting a substantial uptick in travel activity.

Wahyudi remarked, “In the first week of April, people were still enjoying the long holiday of Eid al-Fitr, then in the third week, we attracted more visitors during the long weekend for Good Friday and Easter.”

During these festive periods, passenger numbers soared, with 495,879 people utilizing the airport from April 1 to April 7 for Eid, and an additional 280,692 passengers recorded between April 17 and April 20 for the Easter holiday. This brought the average daily passenger count to approximately 70,000, marking a 16% increase compared to the average of 60,000 passengers earlier in 2025. ### Leading Routes and International Influence

The general manager highlighted the most traveled domestic routes, noting that Jakarta topped the list with 336,743 passengers, followed by Surabaya with 119,119 and Labuan Bajo with 51,474. For international travel, Singapore emerged as the most popular destination with 241,213 passengers, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne, serving 145,044 and 43,910 travelers, respectively.

Further solidifying Bali’s position as a favored holiday destination, the month saw Australian travelers lead international arrivals at Ngurah Rai Airport, with 141,634 visitors entering the island in April. This was followed by significant numbers from India and China, with 50,879 and 47,166 arrivals, respectively.

Wahyudi emphasized the importance of these figures, stating, “The achievements in April signal that Bali continues to thrive as a preferred global destination.” He reiterated the airport’s dedication to enhancing passenger services, connectivity, and overall travel experiences.

Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport was recently honored as one of the best airports globally, ranking 6th among regional airports in Asia in the 2025 Skytrax World Airport Awards, and sitting at 72nd in the worldwide rankings. This recognition underscores Bali’s reputation as a prime travel destination.
