Bali Sees Surge in International Tourism Following Resumption of Immigration Services
Bali, Indonesia – April 11, 2025 – In a strong signal of recovering international tourism, Bali has fully restarted its immigration operations after a week-long hiatus during the Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr celebrations. On April 9, immigration authorities processed an impressive total of 12,770 visa and residence permit applications on the first day of reopening. This surge comes after a record 6.3 million international arrivals in 2024, a figure that exceeded pre-pandemic levels.
Immigration Operations Resumed
Immigration services across Bali were temporarily suspended from March 27 to April 7 to accommodate the festivities surrounding Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, and Eid al-Fitr. During this period, emergency immigration services were still available for foreign nationals facing urgent travel requirements, primarily related to health or family matters. Now, all immigration offices are operating at full capacity, with staff well-prepared to handle the increased demand.
The quick rebound in operations reflects Bali’s robust appeal to international travelers. During the pause, Indonesia’s digital immigration system still received a staggering 217,695 visa applications, signaling that many were eagerly awaiting the opportunity to visit the island.
Bali’s Rising Popularity
Bali is renowned worldwide for its stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and attractive travel experiences, which have recently earned it the title of Asia’s most beautiful island in the Reader’s Choice Awards by DestinAsian magazine. As a result, tourist interest is anticipated to bolden, with projections estimating approximately 6.5 million visitors throughout 2025. This resurgence in tourism not only highlights Bali’s ongoing popularity but also suggests a general uplift in the travel and hospitality sectors across Indonesia following the global disruptions caused by the pandemic.
Looking Forward
The Indonesian government and local authorities have been keen to revive the tourism sector, which is pivotal to Bali’s economy. The anticipation of increased international visitor numbers is expected to encourage investments in hospitality, infrastructure, and related services, further enriching Bali’s tourism offerings.
As the island gears up for a busy travel season, stakeholders in the tourism industry remain hopeful that these trends will continue, enriching both the local economy and the visitor experience on this beloved Indonesian island.
