Slovenian Tourist Pickpocketed While Dining at Bali Stall

Bali, Indonesia – A Slovenian tourist fell victim to pickpocketing while enjoying a meal at a food stall in South Denpasar on Saturday afternoon, May 3, 2025. The incident took place at Warung Muslim Bondowoso, located on Mertasari II Street in Sidakarya Village.

According to the South Denpasar Police Chief, AKP Agus Adi Pariyoga, the victim, identified as 35-year-old Kamin Natalija, had been dining with his partner when the theft occurred. During the meal, Kamin’s sling bag, which contained several valuables, was stolen. Among the missing items were a Samsung mobile phone, cash amounting to IDR 900,000, and a credit card.

Quick Recovery of Stolen Bag

After reporting the theft to the South Denpasar Police, officials acted swiftly. Not long after the report, police located Kamin’s bag in the Taman Pancing Timur Street area of Pemogan, South Denpasar. However, the recovered bag was missing IDR 600,000 in cash. Investigators are still on the lookout for the individual responsible for the theft.

"The sling bag containing the victim’s belongings has been found. Only IDR 600,000 was lost," remarked AKP Agus Adi Pariyoga in a statement to detikBali.

Description of the Suspect

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a man who had been loitering around the food stall before making off with Kamin’s bag on a motorcycle. Authorities believe that the perpetrator took advantage of Kamin’s momentary distraction to commit the crime.

Ongoing Investigation and Safety Advice

The South Denpasar Police continue to investigate the whereabouts and identity of the alleged thief. In light of the incident, police are advising both tourists and locals to remain vigilant about their personal belongings, especially in busy public areas.

"We urge tourists and the public to be more careful with their personal belongings in public places. We continue to strive to maintain a safe and conducive public security situation," concluded AKP Agus Adi Pariyoga.

Context on Theft in Denpasar

The incident is part of a wider trend, as there have been multiple theft-related incidents reported in Denpasar. In January 2025 alone, police apprehended 51 individuals linked to theft, showcasing ongoing concerns regarding petty crime in the area. The police reported responding to 47 public complaint reports that month, including various theft cases that ranged from minor incidents to more serious offenses.

As safety remains a priority for both residents and tourists, authorities are increasing efforts to address theft and improve overall public security measures in Bali.
