Denpasar City Government Clarifies Installation of Zinc Fencing at Sanur’s Duyung Beach
In light of local concerns regarding the unsightly zinc fencing that has appeared around disused properties at Duyung Beach in Sanur, the Denpasar City Government has stepped forward to clarify the situation. The presence of these fences, which have been met with dismay by residents and visitors alike, is a precautionary measure related to upcoming construction promises in the area.
Plans for a New Public Park and Amenities
The Denpasar City Government has confirmed that the installation of the zinc fencing serves the dual purpose of concealing dilapidated buildings and securing the site for the development of a new public park and various amenities. Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara reassured the public, stating, “This will be arranged by the City Government for parks and public facilities. The plan is to change [the area].”
The developments are planned to commence in 2025, with funding sourced from the revised local government budget (APBD). This initiative aims to enhance public space in the rapidly evolving Sanur area, which is undergoing significant transformation in recent years—some of which have been positively received by residents, while others have raised concerns.
Community Concerns and Communication Issues
Local residents have expressed anxiety over the zinc fencing due to the absence of public notices accompanying the installation. Many feared it might indicate unauthorized construction activity, a common issue in Bali. The lack of communication regarding these developments also led to murmurs of dissatisfaction among Sanur’s Traditional Village Authorities. Gusti Agung Alit Kencana, the Head of the Traditional Village, commented on the matter, urging the public to direct questions to the mayor since the Traditional Village had not been involved in these discussions.
Significant Developments in Sanur
This is not the only significant change coming to Sanur. Earlier this month, Bali International Hospital provided a preview of its new world-class medical facility, designed to cater to both Indonesian nationals and international medical tourists. Scheduled to open in April 2025, the hospital aims to provide comprehensive medical services, discouraging overseas travel for medical care and establishing Bali as a prominent destination for health tourism.
The hospital will feature specialized services in Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, and Orthopedics, and will come equipped with an emergency department, an intensive care unit, and a private ambulance service. Notably, it promises to offer Bali’s first mammogram facility and advanced diagnostic imaging technology, including 3 Tesla MRI machines.
Moreover, the development is part of a larger vision for Sanur’s revitalization, which also includes the newly opened ICON Bali Mall, the transformation of Grand Inna Beach Hotel into The Meru, and the establishment of Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection.
Conclusion
As Sanur continues to transform, the Denpasar City Government is focusing on enhancing public spaces while addressing community concerns regarding developments. While the zinc fencing may detract from the aesthetics temporarily, the promise of a new public park and amenities highlights proactive efforts to create a better environment for residents and visitors alike. The developments at Bali International Hospital and various establishments signal an exciting era for Sanur, aiming to position the area not just as a tourist destination but as a hub for high-quality medical care as well.
