Power Outage Strikes Bali, Interrupting Daily Life and Travel

May 2, 2025 – Bali, Indonesia – A significant power outage has impacted most areas of the renowned tourist destination of Bali, creating widespread disruption and challenges for both residents and visitors. The outage, which began on Friday, left many areas without electricity, resulting in traffic congestion and long lines at the airport, although flight operations continued unaffected.

According to the state utility company, Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), efforts are currently underway to restore power to the affected regions. A spokesperson for PLN stated that the cause of the blackout is being investigated as restoration work progresses steadily. "We are working hard to bring back the power supply to the affected areas as soon as possible," said I Wayan Eka Susana, a representative from PLN.

The outage has had notable effects on daily operations and travel on the island. At Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, passengers faced significant delays as they navigated long queues at check-in counters. Meanwhile, roadways across the island saw traffic jams due to the lack of street lighting and traffic signals, creating further inconveniences.

Despite the challenges, the airport operator confirmed that flights have not been canceled. Bali’s status as Indonesia’s principal tourist center, attracting 6.3 million foreign visitors last year alone, emphasizes the importance of swift recovery efforts to minimize disruptions for travelers and businesses alike.

Social media platforms have been flooded with images and reports capturing the chaos, including snapshots of the lengthy traffic snarls and crowded airport terminals. Local businesses and authorities are closely monitoring the situation, hoping for a prompt return to normalcy.

As recovery efforts continue, both residents and tourists are urged to remain patient while utilities work to resolve the situation. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential vulnerabilities within infrastructure systems, particularly in areas heavily reliant on tourism.

For updates on the restoration progress and related news, the public is encouraged to follow announcements from local authorities and utility companies.
