Bali Celebrates Arak Day with the Launch of Bintang’s New Flavor: Arak Jeruk & Madu

Bali, Indonesia – The vibrant island of Bali is set to celebrate Arak Day on January 29, highlighting its traditional coconut palm liquor, arak. This annual event serves not only as a tribute to Balinese heritage but also as a showcase of the island’s evolving culture and modern innovations inspired by age-old traditions.

In a fitting lead-up to Arak Day 2025, Bintang—the most iconic beer brand in Bali—has introduced a new flavor, Bintang Arak Jeruk & Madu. This remarkable beverage blends three flavors synonymous with the island: the traditional arak coconut palm liquor, Kintamani orange, and honey.

A Cultural Celebration through Art

The beverage launch was accompanied by an artistic commission from esteemed Balinese artist Ida Bagus Ratu Antoni Putra, also known as Monez. His artwork on the bottle narrates a cultural story, deeply rooted in Balinese traditions. “Togetherness is the core of Balinese culture,” Putra stated during the launch event. “This collaboration allows me to raise local values while aligning them with the spirit of Bintang products.”

He explained further that arak holds significant importance in Balinese ceremonies, emphasizing that this new product aims to promote local traditions, particularly among the younger generation. “I was given the freedom to explore local identity through my visual style,” he shared, highlighting the collaboration’s intent to merge artistry with cultural appreciation.

A Flavor that Honors Tradition

Multi Bintang Indonesia’s Marketing Director, Jessica Setiawan, elaborated on the creation of Bintang Arak Jeruk & Madu, framing it as a respectful nod to the longstanding arak tradition in Bali. “This drink combines the distinctive taste of arak with freshness from the orange and sweetness from honey,” she explained. “Our goal is to offer an authentic yet modern drinking experience for the community, especially the youth keen on celebrating their cultural heritage.”

The new Bintang flavor is available in two sizes—620 ml and 330 ml—with an alcohol content of 4.9%. Setiawan emphasized the importance of responsible enjoyment of the product, saying, “We hope this product will provide a contemporary avenue for the younger generation to appreciate tradition.”

Bintang: An Iconic Brand in Bali

Bintang beer, which means ‘star’ in Bahasa Indonesia, has enjoyed immense popularity over the years, often recognized by its branded merchandise such as singlets, t-shirts, caps, and beer coolers. It stands as a symbolic representation of Bali, being widely available, from local corner stores to high-end dining establishments.

Over recent years, Bali has embraced various methods to promote its rich cultural heritage, particularly highlighting products derived from arak and its associated customs. The inception of Arak Day has proven to be a strategic approach to enhance the reputation of this locally brewed spirit.

Caution Regarding Arak Consumption

Tourists, however, are reminded of the inherent risks associated with consuming home-brewed arak, as methanol poisoning poses serious dangers in Bali and across Indonesia. Visitors are strongly advised to opt for bottled beers, prepared spirits, and wine during their stay in the country for safety reasons.

For those seeking to savor authentic Balinese flavors without alcohol, Kintamani orange juice is a must-try, widely available at various establishments across the island. Kintamani oranges, cultivated in the volcanic highlands of central Bali, are celebrated as one of the province’s prized natural products.
