Vietnam Airlines to Launch New Service from Ho Chi Minh City to Bali

Vietnam Airlines, a prominent member of the SkyTeam alliance, is set to begin a new direct flight service connecting Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and Bali, Indonesia. The inaugural flight is scheduled to take off on June 1, 2025, a move anticipated to significantly boost tourism, trade, and connectivity between the two vibrant Southeast Asian nations.

Enhanced Connectivity

The incorporation of this new route marks Vietnam Airlines’ second foray into Indonesia, complementing its existing services and bringing the airline’s total weekly flights between the two countries to 14. Initially, the airline will operate four round-trip flights each week, specifically on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Following a successful rollout, the frequency of flights is expected to increase to daily service starting in July 2025. During a launch event for the new service, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam, Denny Abdi, highlighted the critical role of enhanced air connectivity in fostering tourism and bolstering economic cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam. This new route not only facilitates easier travel for tourists from Vietnam to explore the picturesque island of Bali but also opens avenues for Indonesian travelers to experience the dynamic culture and attractions of Vietnam.

Aircraft and Services

The newly established flights will be operated using Airbus A321 aircraft, known for their efficiency and passenger comfort. The configuration of the aircraft includes 16 business class recliners arranged in a 2-2 layout and 168 economy class seats in a 3-3 configuration, catering to travelers seeking both comfort and value.

Tourism Growth

Indonesia has rapidly emerged as Southeast Asia’s largest tourism market, propelled by its expanding population and a robust appetite for travel. According to recent statistics, air passenger traffic between Vietnam and Indonesia soared beyond 800,000 travelers in 2024, marking a remarkable 61% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. This surge underscores the growing importance of air travel in connecting these two dynamic nations.

Market Competition

As Vietnam Airlines prepares for this new service, it will enter a competitive landscape against low-cost carrier Vietjet Air, which also operates nonstop flights between Vietnam and Bali. This competition is expected to benefit travelers by providing more choices and potentially fostering more competitive pricing in the Bali market.
