Bali Plans to Introduce Water Taxi Service to Alleviate Traffic Congestion

Jakarta – In a bid to tackle the persistent and troublesome traffic congestion in South Bali, the Indonesian government is planning to introduce a revolutionary water taxi system. Bali Governor Wayan Koster announced that the proposed water taxi service will link I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport directly to the popular Nusa Dua area in Badung Regency. A preliminary assessment of the water transport concept was conducted using jukung, the traditional Balinese boats, which were employed in a trial run to evaluate the logistics and efficiency of water-based travel. The evaluation revealed that a journey from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to the culturally significant Uluwatu Temple in Nusa Dua took approximately 35 to 40 minutes with these traditional vessels. With the planned modernization of this service using high-speed water taxis, the travel time is expected to be significantly reduced to between 25 to 30 minutes, offering a quicker and more efficient alternative for travelers.
