Cupid Comes to Life at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport for Valentine’s Day

Denpasar, Bali – The I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali recently transformed into a romantic haven, showcasing a special parade featuring Cupid, the ancient Greek deity of love. This unique event, held on Saturday, was designed to celebrate Valentine’s Day and brought a distinctly Balinese flair to the traditional symbol of love.

Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, shared insights into the festivities. ‘The Cupid at our airport featured traditional Balinese attire and accessories that successfully captured the attention of travelers,” he stated. The Cupid was adorned in a white outfit complemented by a traditional wastra (woven cloth) and a decorative frangipani flower headpiece, creating a striking visual throughout the airport’s visitor areas.

As part of the parade, participants delighted travelers by distributing chocolates and flowers, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere. In addition to the distribution, event organizers incorporated interactive games for couples, offering prizes, all set to the backdrop of acoustic love songs, further embellishing the romantic experience within the airport environment.

Ahmad Syaugi noted that the airport management aims to host various thematic events throughout the year, aligning with significant moments and festivals. Last month, the airport had welcomed the vibrant barongsai (lion dance) performance to celebrate the Lunar New Year. ‘We have a calendar of events scheduled year-round, with activities designed to create memorable experiences for our guests,’ he explained. Following the Valentine’s Day celebrations, plans are already underway to introduce a Ramadan theme in the near future.

The initiative to conduct themed events reflects the airport’s commitment to enhancing the traveler experience through creativity and cultural representation. One passenger, Tya, shared her delight regarding the Cupid parade. ‘I didn’t expect to find a Valentine’s celebration at the airport after our honeymoon. Receiving chocolates and flowers really boosted our mood for the trip back to Jakarta,’ she said, reflecting the positive impact of the festivities.

As I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport continues to welcome more travelers, it remains dedicated to bringing joy and cultural experiences to its visitors, ensuring that their time in Bali is not only memorable but also filled with unexpected delights.
